Does Subsidy Publishing Work? |

In view of
the uncertain prospects for books by unknowns, how has it
been possible for Vantage Press to publish so many new
writers? The answer is that we offer a specialized plan
tailored to the needs of the new or lesser known author. |

You,
the author, pay a fee for the publication of your
book. The amount of the fee varies with each
manuscript depending upon length and other factors
which contribute to production costs. In return for
the fee you pay, we publish your book and you
receive 40% of the retail price of every book sold
at standard discounts. (The average bookseller gets
40% of the retail price and Vantage Press receives
20%.) |

What is
Vantage's part in this arrangement? |

Vantage Press brings out an attractive edition of
your book, comparable in quality and appearance with
many found in bookstores throughout the country. In
addition, we execute the promotion program that is
outlined in your contract. |

We send out review
copies to your local area and across the country.
These books go to newspapers, magazines, radio and
television stations. |

We
send sample copies of your book to local
bookstores, and special letters to local
libraries, suggesting they order your book. |

We
contact major bookstore chains and wholesalers. |
|
• |
We
contact online booksellers, such as amazon.com and
barnesandnoble.com. |

• |
We contact
organizations that may be interested in purchasing
copies of your book. |
|
• |
We
issue an annual catalog in which your book is
described; this catalog goes to bookstores and
libraries all over the nation. |
|
• |
We submit your
book for listing in the standard trade
publications such as Books in Print and Publishers
Trade List Annual. |

What kinds
of books does Vantage offer to publish? |
|
We believe that you and all other authors have
the right to express your ideas in print and
present your creative efforts to the public. In
that spirit, Vantage Press has a policy of
offering to publish most manuscripts that are
submitted.
We have published books of every type, not only
of general appeal, but also of a special or
controversial nature. However, we do not publish
hard-core pornography, or material that is
libelous or defamatory.
Even if you have been rejected by other
publishers, you should still consider Vantage
Press. History is filled with examples of
blunders publishers have made in rejecting books
that later soared to popularity. |
